Penstemon cobaea, or Purple Beardtongue, is native to Central and Southwestern US, with also some entry into the Midwestern US. It is a perennial (though sometimes short-lived) that grows along woodland edges, in open prairies, meadows and savananas and open glades and bluffs. It blooms in mid to late spring into early summer with either white or deep purple flowers.
