Asclepias hirtella, or tall milkweed, is native to midwestern and central United States, where it can be found in fields, prairies, and meadows, along roadsides and railroads and in open woodlands; often it grows in sand. It is a milkweed, and the larvae of the Monarch butterfly will readily eat it.

In our yard, this grows in the Prairie Area.
