Asclepias tuberosa, or butterfly weed, is native to the eastern and southwestern United States, where it grows in open woods, and in prairies, fields and roadsides, usually in sandy soil. It is a milkweed, and the larvae of the Monarch butterfly will readily eat it.

In our yard, this grows in the Prairie Area.
