Quick Facts:
- Common Names: Venus flytrap, flytrap
- Lifespan: Perennial
- Zones: 5 - 9

Dionaea muscipula, or Venus flytrap, is a carnivorous plant, with trigger hairs on the inside of its "traps". When an insect touches them, the trap closes, leaving the insect stuck inside, where the plant digests them. In the wild, it is native only to North and South Carolina in the United States, but the plant is now known and grown all over the world. In its native habitat it grows in moist sand, bogs and fens. With winter mulching, this plant can be very hardy even to USDA zone 5, or possibly colder.
In our yard, this grows in the Bog.
