Erechtites hieraciifolius, or American Burnweed, is native to the eastern half of the United States. It is not a very showy plant, with flowers that almost appear to be always in bud, as they have no visible petals or rays. What follows is large white puffs of chaff that carries the small seed below. They grow in fields, along roadsides, in open woods, in lawns and in disturbed places.
