Gnaphalium macounii, or Clasping Rabbit Tobacco, is native to the western half of the United States, as well as the northeast quarter. It grows in open woodlands, clearings, fields, prairies, roadsides, railroads, waste places and meadows. It is an annual or biennial, and reseeds quite readily, often producing many rosettes around the previous years' plant.
