Mertensia virginica, or Virginia bluebells, is native to most of the eastern United States. It grows in open woodlands. It is an emphemeral plant, appearing and blooming in the early spring, and then disappearing entirely beneath the ground until the next year, before the summer heat even begins.

In our yard, this grows in the Woodland Area.
