Monotropa uniflora, or indian pipe, is native to all of the United States, except Hawaii and the Rocky Mountain area. It grows in shaded woodlands, both hardwood and conifer, as well as bogs and moist places. It is a plant without chlorophyll and relies on a parasitic relationship with other plants for its food.
