Symphyotrichum firmum, or Smooth Swamp Aster, is native to the northeastern and midwestern United States, and also extends into Appalachia, but begins becomming quite rare further south. It grows in open fields and prairies, along roadsides and railroads, usually in wet situations, but sometimes is found in drier areas.

In our yard, this grows in the Prairie.
