Toxicodendron radicans, or Eastern Poison Ivy, is native to the eastern half of the United States, where it grows in woods, thickets, woodland edges, sometimes in deep shade; it can also be found in open prairies, waste areas, along railroads, as well as in yards and even growing up trees, homes and other buildings.
We have included this plant only reluctantly. It is, in fact, a native wildflower, but it is also one of the most notorious plants, as contact with the oils in ALL parts of the plants causes a horrble rash on the skin of most people. If you come in contact with it, wash your skin immediately! We have included it here only for the purposes of identification, and because despite our best efforts to remove it, it still persists in small amounts in our wildflower paradise.
In our yard, we do not actively grow this plant, and try to remove all traces of it!
Our growing score: 2
